Pura Lingsar Tourism

Pura Lingsar is a significant and sacred temple complex in Lombok, Indonesia. It is located in Mataram and represents a fusion of Hindu Balinese culture and the indigenous Sasak people's animist beliefs. Built in 1714, it is known for its unique temple architecture and the harmonious religious coexistence that it symbolizes. The temple complex is divided into two main sections; one for the Balinese Hindu worshippers and another for the Sasak Muslims, illustrating a blend of both Waktu Telu Islam and Hinduism. The Wektu Telu religion is a local version of Islam mixed with Hindu-Buddhist elements and ancient animistic traditions. One of the temple's main features is the sacred pool, which is inhabited by a sacred eel, which the locals believe represents the spirit of the temple. Devotees feed the eel with hard-boiled eggs as an offering. The Pura Lingsar complex also hosts the annual Pujawali festival, also known as the Perang Topat, which is a ritual war with rice cakes and a symbol of fertility and prosperity. This festival is a significant event that draws participants from various religions, emphasizing Lombok's cultural diversity.
