Best Time to Visit Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve

When planning a visit to the Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve in Sur, Oman, it's crucial to consider the turtle nesting and hatching cycles. The peak season for turtle nesting at Ras Al Jinz is between the months of May and October. During this period, the largest numbers of green turtles can be observed coming ashore nightly to lay their eggs. The experience of watching these ancient creatures under the moonlight as they diligently dig their nests and lay eggs is both moving and unforgettable. While visitors are welcome year-round, those arriving during these months have the advantage of witnessing the highest volume of turtle activity.

However, if you're interested in seeing the baby turtles hatch and make their journey to the sea, the best time to visit would be between July and November. Approximately 55 to 60 days after the eggs are laid, the hatchlings emerge and scramble towards the ocean, a sight that is considered remarkably fascinating to witness. The climate during this period is also more accommodating for tourists, as the weather starts to cool down after the peak summer heat in Oman. Early mornings just before sunrise are particularly recommended for those who wish to see the hatchlings without the crowds that can gather during peak visiting hours.
