By Public Transportation

Train

  1. From Kyoto Station:

    Take the JR bus from Kyoto Station. Get off at the “Ryoan-ji Mae” stop. The temple is a short walk away from the bus stop.

  2. From Hanazono Station:

    Alternatively, take the JR Sagano/San-in Line to Hanazono Station and then a taxi or a local bus to Ryoan-ji Temple.

Bus

The Kyoto City Bus number 50 from Kyoto Station will take you directly to Ryoan-ji. The journey takes about 30 minutes.

By Car or Taxi

If you prefer a more comfortable ride, taxis are available from Kyoto Station and central Kyoto. The ride to Ryoan-ji Temple takes about 20 minutes depending on traffic.

On Foot or Bicycle
