The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center, located in Abu Dhabi, is an iconic symbol of Islamic architecture and a prominent place of worship. Completed in 2007, this masterpiece was commissioned by the late president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The mosque is named in his honor. The design of the structure includes 82 domes, over a thousand columns, gilded chandeliers, and the world's largest hand-knotted carpet. The reflective pools that surround the mosque enhance its beauty and serene ambience. Made from white Macedonian marble, it stands out dramatically against the blue sky. The mosque incorporates both Mamluk, Ottoman, and Fatimid styles, showcasing a blend of Arabic, Persian, Mughal, and Moorish architecture. It can accommodate approximately 41,000 worshippers and is open to visitors of all faiths, symbolizing unity and cultural diversity. The mosque's library is stocked with a vast collection of books and publications that shed light on the Islamic world and aim to foster a better understanding of the religion's history and culture.
Just a magnificent site to behold. We are not a religious family but we really wanted to see this magnificent site up close. The mosque manners are easy to follow and nothing to worry about.
