Sorakuen Garden is a traditional Japanese landscape garden located in the center of Kobe, Japan. Built in the early 20th century, the garden was once part of the residence of Taijiro Kodera, the father of the former Kobe Mayor Kodera Kenkichi. After several natural disasters and the upheaval of World War II, the garden has been preserved and maintained as a public space. Spanning approximately 20,000 square meters, Sorakuen features a central pond, winding streams, and a variety of trees and flowers that reflect the changing seasons in Japan. Its landscape architecture showcases the beauty of nature fused with human artistry, including stepping stone paths, elegant bridges, and historical buildings such as the Hassam House and the Kodera Stable. Specially designed to offer tranquility and natural beauty, Sorakuen serves as an urban oasis for relaxation and reflection, allowing visitors to step away from the bustling city and immerse themselves in a serene environment that encapsulates the aesthetics and philosophy of a traditional Japanese garden.
