Stella Maris Monastery, also known as the Monastery of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, is situated at the peak of Mount Carmel in Haifa, Israel. This Carmelite monastery is both a spiritual retreat and a historical site, founded in the 19th century. Its origins, however, trace back to the 12th century when hermit monks lived on this site, inspired by the prophet Elijah who, according to the Bible, confronted the prophets of Baal on this mountain. The current structure features an impressive facade with a large central dome. Inside, visitors can admire the beautifully painted ceiling, intricate frescoes, and the elaborately decorated altar. The monastery also houses a small museum showcasing religious artifacts and the history of the Carmelite order. Stella Maris is an oasis of tranquility offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and the Haifa Bay, making it a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims alike. Additionally, it serves as the world headquarters for the Carmelite Order of the Catholic Church.
