Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is one of the most beautiful and significant mosques in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. It sits on a prominent position atop a hill, overlooking the Straits of Johor, providing breathtaking views of the accompanying waterway and the neighboring country of Singapore. The mosque's construction commenced under the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar in 1892 and was completed in 1900. The architectural design uniquely blends Victorian and Moorade influences, showcasing the grandeur of Islamic motifs and a Western-style approach. With a capacity to accommodate over 2,000 worshippers, the mosque features four minarets that resemble British clock towers, further emphasizing its colonial hybrid style. The Sultan Abu Bakar State Mosque is not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the Islamic faith's rich history in the region. Maintained by the Johor Islamic Religious Department, the mosque remains a pivotal spiritual center for Muslims, particularly during Friday prayers and the Eid celebrations. Its strategic location and architectural elegance make it a prominent landmark and a must-visit destination in Johor Bahru.
