The Humble Administrator's Garden, locally known as Zhuozheng Yuan, is one of the largest and most renowned classical Chinese gardens in Suzhou, China. Designed during the Ming Dynasty, it was initially built in 1509 by Wang Xianchen, an imperial envoy of the Ming Empire. Spanning about 5 hectares, this garden is recognized for its graceful landscapes and waterscapes, which reflect the exquisite garden art of Jiangnan – the region south of the Yangtze River. Visitors can meander through the many corridors, pavilions, and intricately crafted bridges, admiring the harmonious blend of man-made structures with natural elements. The garden is divided into three main areas – the Eastern, Central, and Western sectors, each with its unique theme and beauty. The Central Garden is the essence of the complex, featuring the iconic water-lily pond surrounded by pavilions and terraces. The Humble Administrator's Garden has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the 'Classical Gardens of Suzhou' and is a testament to Chinese landscape garden design.
