Zhouzhuang Water Town, renowned as Venice of the East, is one of the most famous water towns in China. It's situated in the Jiangsu province, about 30 kilometers southeast of the city of Suzhou. This ancient town, which dates back more than 900 years, boasts a landscape decorated with waterways, stone bridges, and well-preserved ancient residential houses. The town's layout is defined by its network of rivers and lakes, with the majority of transportation by water. Visitors can take boat rides along the waterways to fully experience the charm of this historic place. Architectural highlights in Zhouzhuang include the Shen's House, a sprawling residential compound of a wealthy merchant, and the Zhang's House, which is over 400 years old. Twin Bridges, composed of Shide Bridge and Yongan Bridge, are the most iconic and frequently photographed in Zhouzhang and symbolize the town’s beauty and rich cultural past. With its mesmerizing watery landscapes, Zhouzhuang offers a tranquil escape from the bustling modernity of China's cities.
