Tonggun Pavilion, also known as Donggun Pavilion, is a historic structure located in Sinuiju, North Pyongan Province, North Korea. Situated atop a hill, the pavilion offers sweeping views of the Yalu River bordering China. Built during the Joseon Dynasty, Tonggun Pavilion has been a significant cultural landmark epitomizing traditional Korean architecture. The pavilion uses an elegant, simplistic design with a tiled roof, wooden pillars, and open walls to embrace its natural surroundings. It served as a military lookout in the past and now stands as a tourist attraction symbolizing peace and historic pride. Although Sinuiju is not as frequently visited by tourists due to travel restrictions in North Korea, those who do gain access to the city can learn about the local history and culture through such heritage sites. Reported restoration works have been carried out to maintain the integrity of this site, which holds importance for both its historic value and its role in local folklore and storytelling.
