How To Reach Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine

Tsurugaoka Hachimangu is the most important Shinto shrine in the city of Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.

By Train:

To reach the shrine by train, you can use one of the following two routes:

  • From Tokyo: Take the JR Yokosuka Line directly to Kamakura Station. The journey typically takes about 1 hour. After arriving at Kamakura Station, Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine is a pleasant 10-minute walk along Wakamiya Oji, the main approach to the shrine.
  • Via Enoden Line: If you are coming from other areas such as Fujisawa, you can take the Enoshima Electric Railway (Enoden) to Kamakura Station. From Kamakura Station, it is again a 10-minute walk to the shrine.

By Car:

For those traveling by car, Kamakura is accessible via the Yokohama-Yokosuka Road. Please note that parking is available but limited around the shrine area, and it is encouraged to use public transportation if possible due to the heavy traffic, especially on weekends and holidays.

By Bus:

Local buses are available from Kamakura Station East Exit. You can take a bus towards either Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine or Hachimangu Kamibatake, which will bring you close to the shrine grounds.
