Wat Nokor, also known as Banteay Prey Nokor, is an enchanting Buddhist temple located in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. Esteemed for its historical significance and distinctive architecture, Wat Nokor complex dates back to the 11th century and was originally constructed during the Angkor period, under the reign of King Jayavarman VII. What makes Wat Nokor unique is its laterite and sandstone structure infused with a fusion of Buddhist and Hindu elements. Within the expansive walled compound, visitors find themselves amidst an intriguing mix of the ancient and the new. The temple features aged remnants adorned with intricate carvings and statues that reflect the rich Khmer heritage. Over time, contemporary Theravada Buddhist pagodas have been integrated into the site, adding a layer of living religious practice to the historical ruins. Worshippers and monks can often be seen within its precincts, which adds to its serene ambiance. Faded frescoes and a large reclining Buddha statue contribute to the temple’s mystique and allure. Surrounding the temple complex are peaceful gardens that provide a tranquil backdrop for reflection and exploration.

Well preserved temple
