The Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse, also known as Akarenga Soko, is a historical building that has witnessed the evolution of the port city Yokohama. Originally constructed as a customs building in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it played a pivotal role in Japan's international trade. As Yokohama was one of the first ports to open to foreign trade in 1859, Western food culture began to seep into Japan, influencing the local cuisine. The Red Brick Warehouses were renovated and repurposed into a cultural and commercial facility in 2002, becoming a hub for a diverse selection of gourmet food, reflective of Yokohama's cosmopolitan heritage. Today, it showcases a fusion of international and Japanese cuisine, suitable for a wide array of tastes and preferences.
