Must-Try Foods In Al Habala Village (Abha) For Tourists 2026 - 2027

Food History of Al Habala Village, Abha, Saudi Arabia

The food history of Al Habala in Abha is deeply rooted in traditional Arabian cuisine. The village, which is situated atop a cliff and historically accessible only by rope ladder, hence the name 'Hanging Village', has long been a preserve of authentic cultural traditions, including its cuisine. The food in this region is influenced by the rich tapestry of spices and ingredients that have been traded in the Arabian Peninsula for centuries, as well as the pastoral and agricultural lifestyles of its inhabitants.

Traditional dishes of the area often include ingredients like wheat, barley, lentils, and a variety of fresh vegetables and fruits that are grown in the fertile mountain terrains of the Asir region. With the absence of cow meat in the diet due to religious or cultural preferences, other protein sources such as chicken, fish, and lamb are commonly featured, along with dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt from goat and sheep.
