Getting to Amman Citadel, Amman, Jordan

Amman Citadel, an ancient site situated on a hill in the capital city of Jordan, is a must-visit destination. Here are the ways to reach this historical marvel:

By Air

Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) is the main gateway for international travelers coming into Amman. It is located approximately 30 km south of the city. From the airport, you can take the following transport options:

Taxi: Official airport taxis are available and can take you directly to the Amman Citadel. The journey may take around 45 minutes to an hour, depending on traffic.
Car Rental: Rental agencies are available at QAIA for those who prefer to drive themselves.
Airport Express Bus: An economical choice is the airport express bus, which can take you to the city center. From there, you can take an additional taxi to the Citadel. Service may vary, so check the schedule beforehand.

By Road

For travelers already in Jordan or coming from neighboring countries:

Bus: Long-distance buses from other cities and countries usually arrive at Amman's Abdali Bus Station. From the station, you can take a short taxi ride to the Citadel.
Car: Driving to Amman Citadel is straightforward. There's a parking lot adjacent to the entrance. Use GPS or ask for directions towards "Jabal al-Qal'a" (the local name for Amman Citadel).

Public Transportation in Amman

If you're navigating within Amman:

Taxis: Yellow taxis are plentiful. Always ensure the meter is running, or agree on a fare before heading to your destination.
Service Cabs: Shared taxis, known locally as “servees,” are a cheaper alternative, although they follow specific routes.

Once at the base of the Citadel hill, you can walk up the steep path or take a taxi directly to the entrance.

Visiting hours and entrance fees may vary, so please check with the Jordan Tourism Board or your hotel for the latest information before planning your trip.
