Best Time To Visit Ancient Copper Mines (Sohar) In 2026 - 2027

Best Time to Visit Ancient Copper Mines in Sohar, Oman

Sohar, known for its rich history in copper mining, is a fascinating destination for those interested in archaeology and ancient industries. The best time to visit the ancient copper mines in Sohar is during the cooler months of the year, from mid-October to mid-March. During this period, temperatures are relatively pleasant, ranging between 17°C to 30°C (63°F to 86°F), making the exploration of outdoor historical sites more comfortable. Moreover, the risk of encountering intense heat waves or dusty conditions is significantly lower, ensuring clearer and more photogenic vistas of the sites.

Visitors should also consider aligning their trip with local cultural events and national holidays to enrich their travel experience. The Khareef Season (monsoon), which occurs from late June to early September, brings cooler temperatures and occasional rains to the adjacent Dhofar region, although Sohar itself does not experience monsoon effects. Travel during this season may still be viable, albeit with chances of higher humidity. It's advisable to avoid visiting during the peak summer months from June to August, as the scorching heat can reach up to 40°C (104°F), making excursions to the mines arduous and potentially hazardous.
