Arg of Tabriz, also known as Arg-e Alishah, is a historical monument in Tabriz, Iran. It is believed to have been initially constructed during the Ilkhanate period, but most of the existing structure dates back to the 14th century when it was rebuilt under the order of Alishah, a minister of the Ilkhanid court, which is why it's also known as Arg-e Alishah. The Arg has gone through numerous periods of reconstruction and damage due to natural disasters like earthquakes. It was originally part of a larger complex that served both as a military fortress and a seat of government but today only the impressive remnants of its massive brick walls are visible. The site has been used for various purposes throughout its history, including a military castle, a governmental office, and at times, even as a prison. It stands as a symbol of the rich cultural heritage of Tabriz and is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. The remnants of the Arg vividly illustrate the architectural and historical significance of the structure, reflecting the city's past grandeur.
