The Azerbaijan Museum is the most significant museum in the northwest of Iran, located in Tabriz, the historical capital city of the East Azerbaijan province. It was founded in 1962 and stands adjacent to the Blue Mosque, another noteworthy landmark. The museum consists of three main halls, each dedicated to a different time period. The first hall showcases prehistoric and pre-Islamic items, including pottery, bronze tools, and ornaments, emphasizing the long history of human settlement in the Iranian plateau. The second hall is dedicated to Islamic history, filled with inscriptions, coins, and Islamic arts like calligraphy and miniatures. The final hall focusses on the contemporary history of Azerbaijan, exhibiting costumes, carpets, and other cultural artifacts. The museum also has a library specialized in history and archaeology. The architecture itself, with its Façade reminiscent of Sassanian vaults, adds historical grandeur to the museum experience. This museum not only serves as a repository of historical artifacts but is also an educational hub for those interested in the rich cultural tapestry of Iran.
