Food History of Bentota Sea Turtle Conservation Project, Sri Lanka

The Bentota Sea Turtle Conservation Project is not directly associated with food but rather focuses on the conservation of sea turtles by protecting nests, rehabilitating injured turtles, and educating the public about the importance of sea turtles to the marine ecosystem. As a result, the project itself does not have a distinct food history. However, Bentota as a coastal town in Sri Lanka does have a rich culinary tradition that is influenced by its proximity to the sea and its multicultural history, including influences from Portuguese, Dutch, British, Arab, Malay, and Indian cuisine.

The local cuisine features an abundance of fresh seafood as well as tropical fruits and vegetables, reflecting the island's abundant natural resources. Rice and curry are staples, often accompanied by a variety of side dishes that highlight local spices and flavors. Coconut milk is also widely used, adding a rich, creamy texture to many Sri Lankan dishes.
