The Blue Mosque, also known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, is one of Istanbul's most iconic landmarks. Whether you are already in Istanbul or traveling from abroad, there are several convenient ways to reach the Mosque.
Tram: The easiest way to get to the Blue Mosque by public transport is via the tram. The tramline T1 operates across the city and will take you to Sultanahmet station. From there, the Blue Mosque is just a short walk away.
Bus: A range of buses serve the Sultanahmet area. Popular bus lines include 61B, 96T, and BN1. Depending on your starting point, find a bus that stops at Sultanahmet and you will find yourself within walking distance of the Mosque.
Taxi: You can easily hail a taxi in Istanbul, and it’s a convenient way to reach the Blue Mosque directly. Make sure to use a taxi with a working meter, or negotiate the fare before your journey to avoid being overcharged.
Car: If you're driving, please note that parking in the Sultanahmet area can be quite challenging. There are paid parking lots available, but they tend to fill up quickly. Consider parking farther away and taking the tram or a taxi to the Mosque.
If you are coming from the Asian side of Istanbul or along the Bosporus, ferries are an excellent option. Many services will drop you at the Eminönü pier. From Eminönü, it's only a 15-20 minute walk or a short tram ride to the Blue Mosque.
From Istanbul Airport (IST): You can take a taxi directly to the Blue Mosque, which will take around 50 minutes depending on traffic. Alternatively, use the Havaist airport shuttle services that drop you off at Sultanahmet Square.
From Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW): A taxi ride from Sabiha Gökçen to the Blue Mosque takes longer, usually around an hour and a half. You can also take a bus to Kadıköy and then use the ferry to cross over to Eminönü, followed by a tram or a walk to the Blue Mosque.
