Bolan Pass is a mountain pass through the Toba Kakar Range of Balochistan province in western Pakistan, 120 kilometers from the Afghanistan border. This historically significant pass is an ancient gateway between the Central Asian and South Asian regions. Considered strategically important, it has been a vital trade and military route for centuries. Caravans moving along the Silk Road would traverse through this route. The British Empire notably used the Bolan Pass to reach Afghanistan during their military campaigns in the 19th century. The rugged terrain and steep cliffs that characterize the pass are also recognized for their dramatic natural beauty. Despite its elevation of around 1,800 meters, the Bolan Pass remains accessible for much of the year, unlike several other passes that are blocked by snow. It is connected by road and railway which is an engineering marvel. The railway journey through this pass offers breathtaking views of the rugged landscape and a unique perspective on the region's rich history.
