The Botanic Gardens in Belfast are an essential part of the city's Victorian heritage, offering a tranquil retreat amid the urban landscape. Spread over 28 acres, they were established in 1828 by the Belfast Botanic and Horticultural Society and became a public park in 1895, showcasing an impressive array of exotic tree species and colorful floral displays. The gardens feature the Palm House, a stunning cast iron and curved glass structure designed by Charles Lanyon, which houses tropical plants and birds. In addition, the Tropical Ravine, another noteworthy Victorian greenhouse, has been recently restored to house tropical flora. Botanic Gardens act as a backdrop for the Ulster Museum, also located within the grounds, adding a cultural dimension to the park. The gardens host events, concerts, and the annual Belfast Mela, celebrating multiculturalism. Rich in history and natural beauty, the Botanic Gardens provide both recreational and educational experiences for visitors, making it an iconic feature of Belfast’s landscape.
