Bumthang Valley in Jakar is often referred to as the spiritual heartland of Bhutan. It encompasses four major valleys: Chokhor, Tang, Ura, and Chhume. The landscape is picturesque, featuring serene monasteries and ancient temples that date back to the 7th century. Jakar, known as the 'Castle of the White Bird,' is the district's main town and is famed for its dzong, which holds a significant position in Bhutanese history. The valley is rich in agricultural production, with dairy farms and the famous Bumthang cheese. It is also known for its buckwheat and apple products, as well as the production of local honey and spirits. Bumthang is home to several sacred festivals, including the Jambay Lhakhang Drup and Ura Yakchoe, which attract tourists and pilgrims alike. The valley's spiritual significance is complemented by its natural beauty, with lush fields, forested mountains, and clear rivers. Bumthang is an excellent destination for hiking, with trails ranging from the Burning Lake to the Tharpaling Monastery. The culture is rich, and the artisanal crafts, particularly the Yathra, a hand-woven textile with distinctive patterns and colors, are notable.
