Jakar Dzong, also known as 'Dzong of the White Bird', is a significant dzong located in Jakar town of Bumthang District in central Bhutan. Constructed in 1667, it sits atop a ridge overlooking the Chokhor valley, and it plays a pivotal role in Bhutan's history. The fortress is an outstanding example of Bhutanese architecture, featuring massive walls and a distinctive red, gold, and white color pattern that harmonizes with the traditional Buddhist aesthetics. The Dzong houses administrative offices and a monastic body, representing the dual system of religious and administrative functions, characteristic of Bhutanese governance. Jakar Dzong is known for its central utse (tower), which is said to be one of the largest in the country. It has been damaged by historical fires and an earthquake but has since been carefully restored, preserving its grandeur and cultural significance. The Dzong is an integral part of Bhutanese festivals, particularly the annual Jakar Tshechu, where locals and tourists gather to witness traditional mask dances and cultural celebrations.
