Chung Tai Chan Monastery is a Buddhist temple located in Puli, a town in the geographic center of Taiwan within Nantou County. This monastery is the largest Buddhist temple in Taiwan and one of the tallest worldwide. It was established by Wei Chueh in 2001 following the Linji school of Mahayana Buddhism. Chung Tai Chan Monastery not only serves as a place of worship but also as a cultural and educational center, facilitating the exchange of Buddhist ideas and teachings. Its architecture is a modern interpretation of traditional Buddhist styles, featuring a central skyscraper-like main building that extends 37 stories into the sky, surrounded by additional structures such as pagodas, stupas, and prayer halls. Inside, intricate sculptures, paintings, and artwork tell the story of Buddha and his teachings. The monastery's grounds are adorned with peaceful gardens, ponds, and statues, contributing to the spiritual atmosphere. Visitors are welcome to explore the site and participate in meditation retreats, fostering a sense of calm and introspection.
