Dana Biosphere Reserve is Jordan's largest nature reserve, covering 320 square kilometers of rugged and beautiful terrain, extending from the top of the Jordan Rift Valley down to the desert lowlands of Wadi Araba. Established in 1989, Dana Biosphere Reserve is a haven of biodiversity, housing a variety of landscapes that range from wooded highlands to rocky slopes and from gravel plains to dunes. It is managed by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN). The reserve is home to over 800 species of plants, 449 species of fauna, and a wide variety of birds, making it a popular spot for birdwatching. Past and present human habitation is evidenced by the numerous archaeological sites scattered throughout the reserve, making it not only a natural but also a historical treasure. Dana Biosphere Reserve offers visitors a unique blend of natural, cultural, and scientific experiences. It is well-known for eco-tourism, providing sustainable livelihoods for local communities through eco-lodges and guided tours.
