Dapeng Fortress, also known as Dapeng Ancient City, is a historic walled village located in Dapeng New District, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China. It was built in 1394 during the Ming dynasty to defend against Japanese pirate invasions. Spanning over 110,000 square meters, the fortress is a well-preserved military fortress featuring intricate defense systems and structures. Its thick walls, tall watchtowers, and ancient dwellings showcase the rich history of southern China's fortifications. Inside the fortress, visitors can explore the narrow lanes, old houses, temples, and cultural relics that reflect the lifestyle of a bygone era. The fortress was declared a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 2001 and has since become a famous historical and cultural site attracting numerous domestic and international tourists. Despite urban development, Dapeng Fortress remains a cultural testament to China's historical military might and an excellent example of the region's architectural heritage.
