The primary mode of international access to Dili is through the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport (IATA: DIL). The airport is located within the city and close to many of the major hotels and attractions.
Once you arrive at the airport, you can take a taxi to your hotel; it is advisable to use a taxi from a reputable firm or arrange a pick-up through your hotel. Taxis are typically available outside of the terminal.
Entering Timor-Leste by land is possible through the border with Indonesia at Batugade. The crossing is from West Timor into the enclave of Oecusse or across the main border at Motain.
Ensure you have all the required visas and travel documents for entry into Timor-Leste; visa-on-arrival services are typically available at the airport and land border checkpoints.
Although less common, it is possible to reach Dili by sea. Some cruise ships make stops in Dili, and there is a ferry service from Indonesia, although it's less frequently used by tourists due to limited facilities and schedules.
Be mindful of the local transportation schedules which can be subject to change, and always have your travel documents in order for border crossings. Moreover, consider arranging accommodation and local transportation in advance, especially during the high season or local holidays.
