Falaj Al Mualla Fort is an ancient fortress located in the emirate of Umm Al Quwain, United Arab Emirates. This fort was constructed in response to tribal conflicts and external threats in the past. It served both as a defensive stronghold and a ruler's residence, playing a significant role in the region's history. The architecture of Falaj Al Mualla Fort represents traditional Arabian fortifications, constructed from local materials such as coral stones, mud, and palm tree trunks. Over the years, the fort has undergone various restoration projects to preserve its historical value and to maintain its structure. As part of Umm Al Quwain's rich cultural heritage, the fort is now a popular tourist attraction, offering a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle and the past military significance of the area. Visitors can explore various sections of the fort, including the towers, the weaponry display, and the living quarters, which have been carefully maintained or restored to reflect the original style and function. The fort often hosts cultural events and exhibitions, making it a hub for those interested in the emirate's history and traditions.
Off the beaten path -- and somewhat similar to the other museums in restored old forts (e.g. Umm al Quwain city, Ajman, RAK) -- but well worth a visit. It is off the usual tourist path - but well wort..
Went there decades ago when place was falling down
Now a magnificent 'restored' fort but was falling down in 80s and 90s with concrete blocks filling holes in walls. Now shows history of this over looked part of UAE.
