How To Reach Ginkakuji Silver Pavilion

Traveling to Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) in Kyoto, Japan

Ginkakuji, also known as the Silver Pavilion, is one of Kyoto's most famous historical sites. It is located at the northern end of the city's Higashiyama district and is accessible through various modes of transportation.

By Bus:

  • Take Kyoto City Bus number 5 or 17 to "Ginkakuji-michi" bus stop.
  • Take Kyoto City Bus number 100 or 203 to "Ginkakuji-mae" bus stop.

From the respective bus stops, it is a short walk to the Ginkakuji grounds.

By Subway and Bus:

  • Take the Karasuma Subway Line to "Kitaƍji Station".
  • From there, board any of the buses 1, 12 or 204 to "Ginkakuji-michi" or "Ginkakuji-mae".

From Kyoto Station:

  • Direct Kyoto City Bus number 206 will take you towards "Ginkakuji-michi" bus stop.
  • The bus ride usually takes about 35 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.

By Bicycle:

  • Cycling to Ginkakuji from the city center can be enjoyable and takes about 30 to 50 minutes depending on your starting location.

By Foot:

  • If you're up for a walk, Ginkakuji can be reached in about 45 to 60 minutes from downtown Kyoto, such as the Shijo-Kawaramachi area.
