Best Time to Visit Green Mosque, Mazari-Sharif

Visiting the Green Mosque, also known as the Mosque of Ali or the Blue Mosque, in Mazari-Sharif, Afghanistan, is best during the spring months from late March to early June. During this time, the weather is generally mild and pleasant, avoiding the extremities of the hot summer and the freezing cold winter. The spring season also coincides with the Afghan New Year, Nawroz, which is celebrated on March 21st. If you plan your visit around Nawroz, you will have the unique opportunity to witness the city teeming with festivities and cultural events. The mosque itself is adorned with a mesmerizing display of raw blue tiles, which under the spring sun, creates a spectacular view that is not to be missed.

The temperatures during the spring are conducive to outdoor activities, ranging from about 13°C (55°F) to 26°C (79°F), making it comfortable for tourists to explore the intricate artisanship of the Green Mosque. It should be noted that the region might experience occasional rain during the spring, which can add to the beauty of the lush gardens surrounding the mosque but may require appropriate attire for the visitors. The mosque is a major pilgrimage site, and visiting during a quieter time of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon, can provide a more personal and serene experience. However, visitors should be aware of and respect the local customs and dress modestly, as the Green Mosque is a sacred place of worship.
