You can take the Tozai Line to Higashiyama Station, which is about a 10-minute walk from the shrine. Exit the station via Exit 2 and walk east along Sanjo Street.
Kyoto’s bus network provides convenient access to Heian Shrine. Take bus numbers 5, 46, or 100 and get off at the “Kyoto Kaikan Bijutsukan Mae” stop which is right in front of the shrine.
A taxi might be the most comfortable option, although it's more expensive than public transport. Simply tell the taxi driver “Heian Jingu” and they will know the destination.
Cycling is a wonderful way to explore Kyoto's cityscape. You can rent a bicycle and navigate to Heian Shrine using one of the many bike-friendly streets. Bicycle parking is available nearby.
If you are staying in the city center, Heian Shrine is accessible on foot – an opportunity to appreciate the city's unique atmosphere and lovely side streets.
