The Huma Temple, revered for its unique leaning structure, is located in the village of Huma near Sambalpur, Odisha, India. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it is commonly known as the Leaning Temple due to its almost 47-degree tilt. The temple's architectural anomaly has intrigued scholars, with some drawing comparisons to Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa. It was built in the 17th century by King Baliar Singh, the fifth king of the Chauhan dynasty of Sambalpur. Surrounded by the serene landscape alongside the Mahanadi River, the temple provides a panoramic view blending spirituality with nature. The unexplained tilt is not just limited to the main temple but is also observed in other structures within the complex. The Huma Temple complex comprises the main Shiva temple along with other shrines, and is known for the Kudo Fish, a species of carp, found in the river, considered sacred and only found in this vicinity. The lore surrounding the temple and its fish creates a unique cultural narrative that captivates visitors. Today, the temple stands as a historical site with significant spiritual and architectural value.
