The Islamic Centre, officially known as Masjid-al-Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam, is the most significant place of worship for Muslims in Male, Maldives. The Islamic Centre was opened in 1984 and is named after Sultan Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam, a revered national hero. It boasts a distinctive modern design with traditional Islamic elements, such as intricate geometric patterns and Arabic calligraphy. The mosque's golden dome is a prominent feature in Male's skyline, and its minaret soars to a height of 62 meters, making it one of the tallest structures in the city. Inside, the vast prayer hall accommodates over 5,000 worshippers, with an interior adorned with fine woodcarvings and exquisite chandeliers.
