The Tsunami Monument in Malé, Maldives is a poignant memorial that commemorates the lives lost in the devastating 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. Located on the southeastern coast of Malé island, the monument stands as a stark reminder of the tragedy that affected the lives of thousands. This elegant structure consists of steel spheres arranged to represent the atolls of the Maldives, and the core of the monument is designed to symbolize the grieving and resilience of the survivors. The design also incorporates different elements like waves and abstract representations that recount the stories of the disaster. Surrounding the monument, the area provides a peaceful spot for reflection amidst the bustling capital. Visitors can witness the island's community paying respects and also gain a deeper understanding of the impact the tsunami had on the Maldivian people. The monument not only serves as a memorial but also as a warning and educational tool demonstrating the importance of understanding and respecting the power of nature.
An installation at the edge of Male. Beautiful view at this point. There are some food courts available behind this place. Buffet tea snacks is a different experience there.

Tsunami Monument is a must-see if you fancy history and culture. This commemorates the people who passed away due to the 2004 Tsunami. It is easily reached by foot from the jetty.

sadly its not in its original location, slightly inaccessible without a taxi
its facing the garbage loading area and an extremely busy boat terminal
its nice in the evenings and has a running track n..
