The Kachari Ruins are a historical site located in Dimapur, the largest city of Nagaland, India. These ruins are remnants of the Kachari Kingdom, which thrived before the Ahom invasion in the 13th century. The site showcases a collection of enigmatic mushroom-shaped megaliths, believed to be associated with the fertility cult or were constructed for the funerary rituals of the ancient Kachari civilization. Some monoliths also illustrate the presence of a gamut of artistic skills in the form of carvings and motifs, depicting the culture and the then-contemporary lifestyle of the people. An important feature of the ruins is the chessboard-like terraces, which are dotted with these peculiar pillars and portend to the societal sophistication that once prevailed here. It is not just a site of archaeological significance but also offers a picturesque landscape for visitors seeking to immerse themselves in the cultural heritage of Nagaland.
