Kamikochi is a remote mountainous highland valley within the Northern Japan Alps of Nagano Prefecture, situated in the Chūbu-Sangaku National Park. This picturesque valley is renowned for its scenic beauty, encompassing pristine alpine forests, bubbling rivers, and majestic mountain peaks. It is characterized by the clear Azusa River, which runs through the valley, and the iconic Kappa Bridge, a wooden suspension bridge that provides stunning views and is a famous photographic spot. Kamikochi serves as a starting point for mountain expeditions and is popular for outdoor activities such as hiking, bird-watching, and nature walks. The area is tightly controlled by environmental protection regulations to preserve its natural state, which includes limiting access to public transportation and restricting private vehicle entry. Opening annually from late April until November, Kamikochi offers visitors the chance to witness the dramatic shifts in flora and fauna across the seasons: from the lush greenery in summer to the rich golden hues in autumn.
