Karbandi Monastery, situated in Phuentsholing, Bhutan, is one of the most revered religious sites in the country. Founded in the 1960s by the Royal Grandmother, Ashi Phuntsho Choedron, this monastery is perched at an elevation, offering panoramic views over the plains of West Bengal and the bustling border town. It houses beautiful statues of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, the unifier of Bhutan, and Guru Rinpoche, who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. The gardens surrounding the temple are dotted with eight different chortens (stupas), which symbolize different aspects of Buddhist teaching and add to the serene ambiance. Devotees believe that if childless couples go there to pray, they will be blessed with offspring. The monastery is a center of spirituality and a testament to the Bhutanese architectural style, with its rich colors, intricate paintings, and traditional structure. It is not only a place of worship but also offers a haven of peace for meditation and reflection.
