Kargah Buddha is an archaeological site located about 10 kilometers from Gilgit, in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The site is famed for its large carved Buddha figure ensconced in a rock cliff, believed to be carved in the 7th century. This ancient sculpture stands as a relic of the times when Buddhism was predominant in the region. The carving, which measures approximately 50 feet in height, shows Buddha standing in a blessing pose. The statue overlooks the Kargah Valley with its back to the Rock. The area around Kargah Buddha is serene, providing a picturesque view of the valley below, making it a popular destination for both tourists and pilgrims. The site also carries historical significance as it is indicative of the rich cultural heritage that once flourished along the Silk Road. The surrounding regions are home to a number of similar archaeological findings, emphasizing the historical importance of Buddhism in the area.
