Kemaro Island, located in the Musi River, is one of Palembang's most visited tourist spots. It is famous for its serene atmosphere and the striking nine-story Pagoda that graces the island, which is a symbol of the Chinese influence in the region. The island is rich in cultural history, with the Pagoda being a place of worship for Buddhists and a shrine to the Tan Bun An – Siti Fatimah love story, reminiscent of Romeo and Juliet. Visitors are often enchanted by the setting of this tale of love and heartbreak. Besides the pagoda, there is also a large statue of Kwan Im Goddess, regarded as a deity of mercy in Chinese Buddhism, which is a key feature of the temple complex. The island is also famous for its annual Cap Go Meh festival, which celebrates the fifteenth day of the Chinese New Year, drawing many visitors and devotees. This small, lush island has walking paths surrounded by greenery and is considered a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is an ideal location to learn about Chinese-Indonesian culture and enjoy leisure activities such as picnicking and river sightseeing.
