Khasab Fort is a picturesque fortress located in the heart of Khasab, a city in the exclave of the Musandam Peninsula in Oman. It is strategically positioned on the strait of Hormuz, offering panoramic views of the sea and surrounding mountains. The fort was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century when they occupied the region. Its design is a typical example of Portuguese military architecture of that era, adapted to the Omani environment. After the Portuguese left, it was taken over by the Omanis, who have maintained it over the centuries. Today, it houses a museum exhibiting artefacts of Omani cultural history, including jewelry, clothing, weapons, and household items. The fort's massive central tower, thick walls, and sturdy bastions underscore its defensive purpose. The location's beauty, coupled with the fort's historical importance, makes it a popular destination for tourists and history enthusiasts. The fort also offers an insight into traditional Omani boat-building techniques, with a display of several types of dhows that once sailed the Arabian Sea.
