Khasab Castle is a well-preserved fortification located in the heart of Khasab, a city in the exclave of Musandam Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman. It is strategically positioned on the northern tip of the Arabian Peninsula, overlooking the Strait of Hormuz. The castle, with its robust walls and massive central tower, was built by the Portuguese in the 17th century when they controlled the coast of Oman. It served as a military stronghold and a base for suppressing local uprisings and safeguarding Portuguese interests in the region. Khasab Castle is characterized by its distinctive Omani architecture, which has been carefully restored. Inside this historic fortress, various exhibits showcase the region's cultural heritage, including displays of traditional Omani handcrafts, historical boats, and ethnographic artifacts. Visitors to the castle can explore a number of rooms that house these exhibits and climb the central tower for panoramic views of Khasab and the surrounding rugged mountains and blue waters of the Gulf of Oman. The presence of old cannons and watchtowers adds to the historic atmosphere of the site.
