Kota Tua, also known as the Old Town of Jakarta, is a historical precinct situated in the northern part of Jakarta, Indonesia. The area comprises approximately 1.3 square kilometers spanning the West Jakarta and North Jakarta districts. Kota Tua is a remainder of Old Batavia, the first walled settlement of the Dutch in Jakarta area. It was an important trading hub and the center of the Asian spice trade during the 16th century. Today, the area is a popular tourist destination, thanks to its well-preserved colonial architectures that reflect the multicultural heritage of Jakarta, involving Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, and local influences. Noteworthy landmarks include the historic Jakarta Kota Railway Station, the Jakarta History Museum (Fatahillah Museum) housed in the former city hall of Batavia, Wayang Museum, and the Maritime Museum. Kota Tuna's public square, Taman Fatahillah, is often alive with cultural activities and street performers. The entire precinct is a testament to Indonesia's rich history and is undergoing restoration efforts to preserve its iconic landmarks.
A trip to Jakarta must take in the old town. It is touristy with street theatre bicycle hire with bikes coloured to match the hat ???? museums cafes and a people watching place. Wan east walk to china..
It is better to visit on Saturday since it is closed on Sunday. Although it is an old city, it is full of entertainment. If you are in Jakarta, don't miss this place.
