By Air:

The nearest airport to Mawlamyine is the Mawlamyine Airport (MNU). However, it is a domestic airport and only receives flights from within Myanmar, predominantly from Yangon. If you are coming from outside Myanmar, you will need to first fly to the Yangon International Airport (RGN), and then take a domestic flight to Mawlamyine Airport.

By Train:

Mawlamyine can be reached by train from Yangon. The journey offers scenic views but can be quite lengthy, taking approximately 8-10 hours. Once you reach the Mawlamyine railway station, the Kyaikthanlan Pagoda is accessible via a short taxi or tuk-tuk ride.

By Bus:

Buses from Yangon to Mawlamyine are more frequent and can be a more comfortable option than the train. The journey takes around 6-8 hours. Upon arrival at the Mawlamyine bus terminal, local taxis and tuk-tuks are available to take you to the Kyaikthanlan Pagoda.

By Car:

If you are renting a car or hiring a private taxi, the drive from Yangon to Mawlamyine via the Thanlwin bridge is roughly 300 kilometers and takes 6-7 hours. The pagoda is conveniently located in Mawlamyine's city center and is well-signposted.

Local Transportation:

In Mawlamyine, local transportation options such as motorbike taxis, tuk-tuks, and taxis are readily available. The Kyaikthanlan Pagoda is centrally located and is known as the highest point in the city, making it easy to find. For the most authentic experience, try a trishaw ride. Just make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your trip.

Walking:

If you prefer to walk and are staying within the city center, the pagoda is a prominent landmark and can be reached on foot from most downtown areas. It sits atop a hill, so be prepared for a climb.
