Lankaran Fortress is a historical monument situated in the coastal town of Lankaran in the southeast part of Azerbaijan. This 18th-century fortress is often associated with the region's fight against various invasions and dominance periods, primarily during the Russo-Persian wars. It was initially erected as a defense measure against the advancing Russian forces. The fortress is built mainly of brick and lime and features thick walls and towers that were strategically designed to protect against enemies. Although it has suffered damage through time, renovations have preserved its architectural integrity, enabling visitors to appreciate its historical value. The fortress complex includes a lighthouse, providing a guiding beacon for ships navigating the Caspian Sea. In the past, Lankaran Fortress was part of a bigger defensive network and played a considerable role in local military history. Today, it stands as a cultural monument, offering insights into the rich past of Lankaran and the region's military architecture. Tourists can explore the remaining battlements and enjoy the views of the surrounding landscapes and the Caspian Sea shoreline.
