Loktak Lake, near which the Loktak Pat Ecotourism Park is situated, is a unique destination in Manipur, offering a mix of exceptional natural beauty and cultural richness. The best time to visit Loktak Lake and the adjoining Keibul Lamjao National Park, which is the world's only floating national park, is during the post-monsoon months and the winter season, from October to March. During this period, the weather is mostly pleasant, with temperatures ranging from a comfortable 10°C to 25°C. This makes it an ideal time for wildlife viewing, bird watching, and enjoying the scenic beauty of the lake and its surroundings without the discomfort of heavy rains or intense heat. The water levels in the lake stabilize post-monsoon, offering clear views of the phumdis (floating islands) and the thriving ecosystem they support.
October coincides with the start of the tourism season and brings crisp, clear skies and cooler temperatures, perfect for outdoor activities such as boating and visiting the local villages. By November, the migratory birds start arriving, turning the area into a vibrant bird-watching paradise, which lasts until February. The period is also ideal for catching a glimpse of the endangered Sangai deer in the Keibul Lamjao National Park. Celebrations like Ningol Chakouba in October/November and Lai Haraoba in May add cultural vibrancy to a visit, though May's heat can be intense. Travelers should be aware that during the peak winter months, especially December and January, it can get significantly cooler, so carrying warm clothing is advisable. Avoid the monsoon season, from May to September, as heavy rains can cause the lake's water level to rise, making some parts of the park inaccessible and outdoor activities challenging.
