Getting to Mount Kinabalu
Mount Kinabalu is one of Southeast Asia’s highest peaks and a popular destination for climbers and nature enthusiasts. To reach Mount Kinabalu, you must first travel to Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah, Malaysia.
By Air
Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) is well-connected with major cities from Malaysia and other international destinations. Upon landing, you can hire a taxi or rent a car to get to Kinabalu National Park, where the mountain is located.
By Road
From Kota Kinabalu city center, you can take a bus or a minivan to Kinabalu National Park. The journey usually takes around 2 hours. It is advisable to book your transportation in advance, especially during peak season. For a more comfortable trip, you may consider hiring a private taxi or joining a guided tour.
By Rail
Although there is no direct train service to Mount Kinabalu, you can enjoy a scenic train journey from Kota Kinabalu to the town of Beaufort, and continue the rest of the way by road.
