Mount Lokon, also known as Gunung Lokon, is one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, located near the city of Manado in North Sulawesi. This stratovolcano stands at about 1,580 meters above sea level and is part of the Sulawesi island's volcanic spine. Lokon consists of a twin volcano with Mount Empung being the other. The area is known for its stunning natural beauty, including lush vegetation and a scenic landscape that attracts tourists and hikers. The Lokon-Empung volcano has erupted frequently, with notable eruptions causing evacuations and alertness in the surrounding communities. Despite the risks, the area around Mount Lokon is densely populated, and its fertile slopes are used for agriculture. Tourists can visit the volcano, although access to the crater rim is often restricted due to the frequent volcanic activity. The nearby Tomohon market, famous for its exotic food, and the serene Lake Linow, offer additional attractions for visitors to the region.
