The National Museum of Cambodia, located in the heart of Phnom Penh, is the country's premier cultural institution and the largest museum of cultural history. Established in 1920, it is housed in a striking terracotta structure of traditional design, which is itself a landmark. With a collection of over 14,000 items, the museum preserves and presents Cambodia's cultural and historical legacy across four main galleries. Artifacts range from prehistoric times to periods before, during, and after the Khmer Empire, which at its height spanned much of Southeast Asia. The museum serves as a testament to the skill and artistry of Khmer civilization, showcasing statues, inscriptions, and various relics, including an extensive collection of sculptures from Angkor Wat and other significant archaeological sites. The lush courtyard garden and traditional dance performances offered regularly contribute to the museum's tranquil and reflective atmosphere. It's a source of national pride and an essential destination for anyone interested in Cambodia's rich heritage.

Beautiful museum. The building itself is beautiful. It is the perfect size - not too large nor too small. The pieces are impressive. I truly enjoyed the visit.
