Must-Try Foods In Nuremberg Christmas Market (Nuremberg) For Tourists 2026 - 2027

Food History of Nuremberg Christmas Market

The Nuremberg Christmas Market, known locally as the Christkindlesmarkt, is a vibrant festival celebrated in the heart of Nuremberg, Germany. It boasts of a rich culinary tradition that dates back to medieval times when the first mention of this festive market was recorded in 1628. The market has since become famous for its unique Christmas treats, including the renowned Nuremberg Lebkuchen (gingerbread) which has been a staple since the 14th century. These baked goods were originally created by Franconian monks who utilized spices brought back by traders from the Orient.

Nuremberg sausages, another traditional food, are equally famed but since you requested no cow non-veg food be included, I will focus primarily on vegetarian options and other types of non-veg food that don't involve beef.
